When connecting your Surface to an external display, such as a TV, monitor, or projector, your Surface attempts to automatically select the optimal resolution based on the type of connector used and the resolution capabilities of the external display.
The chosen resolution and refresh rate for the external display are influenced by the number of connected displays, how the display is connected, and whether the screen of your Surface is on or off. Additionally, the processor model in your Surface plays a role in determining these settings.
Connected directly to external display
To see the supported refresh rate and resolution for single or dual external displays, select your Surface device.

Connecting with an adapter, Dock, or Travel Hub
If you are using a Surface display adapter, a Surface Dock, or a Surface USB-C Travel Hub there may be limits on the resolution or refresh rate you are able to achieve. For more information, see:
